Cambridge City Council is sellling our neighborhoods to out-of-town developers

In 2025, Cambridge City Council voted to rid Cambridge of all single-family zoning restrictions, paving the way for the demolition of any home so developers can build units that are not required to provide affordable housing to families.

While the Multifamily Housing (MFH) Ordinance was well intended, by effectively removing reasonable zoning restrictions and stripping enforceability from community development guidelines, the Council has handed a gift to outside billionaire developers, enriching unethical outside actors at the expense of the people the Council is supposed to represent.

Developers with no stake in our community have begun a feeding frenzy, exploiting Cambridge's lax development laws to rip through neighborhoods with no plan, care, or consideration for community needs. They will be comfortably counting their millions while Cantabrigians are left to deal with the fallout for decades.

In less than a year since the passage of the MFH Ordinance, over 100 developments are already in progress, most on single-family lots, many proposing construction of dozens of units after demolition.
